Dumfriesshire's Logan goes for the chop for charity

A kind-hearted Dumfriesshire primary school pupil has donated his long locks of more than 14 inches to a children’s cancer charity.

Eight-year-old Logan Booth, who is in P4 at Lochmaben Primary, went for the chop at Hair Heaven in Lockerbie in aid of the Little Princess Trust.

The organisation provides real hair wigs for children who have lost their hair through undergoing cancer treatment.

Logan was cheered on by his mum Erin, granny Jean McCloskey and five-year-old sister Katie as hairdresser Charlie Good gave him a new look.

His proud mum, who is a nurse at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary, said: “Logan loves his long hair and he’s not had it cut for four years.

“So this was a huge thing for him to do –but he also understands how traumatic it is for young kids who lose their own hair due to illness and he really wanted to help.

“All the family are so very proud of him.

“Being a boy and having long hair he often got mistaken for a girl but he would just tell them “No, I’m a boy and I love my hair” so it was a surprise when he decided to get it cut – and it will take us all some time getting used to it being short again.

“He looked up the Little Princess Trust and realise that it takes £700 to turn the donated hair into a wig so he also decided he was going to raise the money too.

“We thought it was a big ask but he went about telling everyone and we set up a Justgiving page which updated all the time as he counted down to the haircut.

“He’s raised over £900 now – which is amazing – and we want to thank everyone who donated.”

Thanking everyone who gifted money after his haircut, Logan said: “This will be made into a wig for a little girl who has no hair and hopefully I can make a difference to her life.”
