A heartbroken family has shared their devastation after their six-year-old son tragically died just hours after hitting his head at school.

Muhammed Yaseen Uddin passed away following a head injury that his school reportedly believed “wasn’t an emergency.” The six-year-old was sent home and continued with his routine, including celebrating his sister's birthday, before tragically passing away in his sleep.

His father, Simriel Uddin, 41, said his wife received a call from Marlborough Primary School in Small Heath, Birmingham, informing her that Yaseen had a bump on his head. After collecting him, Yaseen was given Calpol and appeared fine, even requesting grapes and chips from the local shop.

However, that night, Yaseen vomited, which his parents assumed was a side effect of the medicine. He fell asleep in his parents' bedroom, but the following morning, he did not wake up. Despite being rushed to hospital, doctors were unable to save him, reports the Mirror.

The family is now awaiting the results of a post-mortem CT scan and has paid tribute to their “energetic and loving” son. They have launched a fundraiser to build a mosque in Yaseen’s honour in Pakistan, a place he loved visiting.

Simriel, an engineer from Birmingham, described Yaseen as “ a beautiful child” with many friends and fond memories. He shared: “We had nicknames for each other—he called me Catboy from PJ Masks and I called him Gecko or Sonic. We had even bought tickets to see the new Sonic movie together, but now we can’t go.”

Recalling the day of the incident, Simriel said his wife received a call about Yaseen’s fall and was assured it was not an emergency. “When we picked him up, he was sitting in reception with an ice pack. At home, he was his normal self, watching TV and celebrating his sister’s birthday. It wasn’t until later that he vomited, but we didn’t think much of it.”

The following morning, Simriel left for work after checking on his family, who were still sleeping. At 9am, the school called to ask how Yaseen was doing. Less than two hours later, Simriel received a frantic call from his wife, with screams and Yaseen’s name in the background. “My heart dropped,” he said. Rushing home, he found police and paramedics outside. Yaseen had been taken to hospital, where doctors fought to save him, but tragically, they were unsuccessful.

The family described the days since the tragedy as “blurring into one” but expressed gratitude for the overwhelming community support. Their fundraiser has already surpassed £4,600 of the £8,000 needed to build the mosque in Yaseen’s memory. Simriel said: “He touched so many lives. We want to build a mosque in Pakistan to honour him and help the community there. He loved it during his visits.”

Marlborough Primary School issued a heartfelt statement through Executive Headteacher Razia Ali: “Yaseen was an incredibly helpful, kind, and caring pupil who brought smiles to everyone he met. He was a much-loved member of our school community, and we are proud of everything he achieved.”

The family now waits for answers, holding onto memories of their “beautiful and loving child.”
