Teenager charged over A9 crash after man, 60, died in hospital

A teenager has been charged in connection with a fatal crash where a 60-year-old man died. Roy Bannerman passed away in hospital three days after the smash on the A9 near Aviemore on Tuesday, March 5.

Roy had been driving a blue Skoda Octavia, which collided with a white Toyota Hilux pick-up near Lynwilg at around 1.45pm. Roy was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow but he died on Friday, March 8.

An 18-year-old man was previously arrested and released pending further enquiries. Police confirmed today, November 21, that the teenager had been charged in connection with a road traffic offence. A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "An 18-year-old man has been charged in connection with a road traffic offence following a fatal crash on the A9 near Aviemore. The crash, involving a blue Skoda Octavia and a white Toyota Hilux pick-up, happened around 1.45pm on Tuesday, 5 March, 2024 near Lynwilg.

"The driver of the Skoda, 60-year-old Roy Bannerman, was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow with serious injuries, where he later died on Friday, 8 March, 2024.

"The 18-year-old man had previously been arrested and released pending further enquiries. A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."
