A man has been arrested and charged with a number of offences following a police chase through a Scots city. The 33-year-old was detained this afternoon.

Police Scotland officers swooped on the suspect after the "vehicle pursuit" and said he has been arrested and charged with committing several crimes.

As well as driving with no licence and no insurance, he is accused of dangerous driving, driving while unfit to do so through drugs and possession of weapons.

He is also said to have been in possession of drugs and is accused of dealing class A banned substances, and the force said he was also detained as he was wanted.

Nobody was injured as a result of his alleged actions, but both the vehicle he had been driving and police vehicles suffered damage, the force said.

The alleged offences were detailed in a post on the Police Scotland Greater Glasgow Facebook page. The post was accompanied by pictures from the scene.

Containing the hashtag #KeepingPeopleSafe, it read: "A number of people may have observed a large police presence in the Charing Cross area earlier today. This was because of a vehicle pursuit after a driver failed to stop for local officers in Possil.

"#GlasgowRP took over the pursuit, during which the driver intentionally rammed a number of police vehicles, the incident concluded at Charing Cross where the vehicle was forcefully stopped and the driver was arrested.

"He now has a #RoomWithNoView until he appears at court tomorrow. Remember our simple advice .... #DontRiskIt. There were no injuries to any parties but damage to police and the arrested male's vehicle."

A picture from the scene at Charing Cross, which appears to have been taken on a dashcam mounted on a police vehicle, shows a police vehicle stationed in front of a dark 4x4.

Red and yellow cones line the street as does metal fencing due to maintenance work ongoing in the area. A second picture was taken round the corner, on Maryhill Road.

On a stretch of the road near to St Georges Cross subway station, it shows two police vehicles with their lights flashing tailing the vehicle in question.
