Former and current pupils and staff at Georgetown Primary in Dumfries looked back at half a century of learning and fun on Saturday.

Our pictures by Les Snowdon are a record of the special day.

The school’s 50th birthday milestone was a day for reminiscing, helped by the collecting of photographs and sharing memories.

A statement from the school said: “We had the honour of celebrating 50 incredible years of Georgetown with so many wonderful people – from our very first pupils, who walked through the doors back in 1974, to pupils who are part of our school today.

“We were thrilled to welcome back many of our former staff members, who returned to reminisce about their time here. The air was filled with joy, laughter, and countless memories shared.

“Everywhere we turned, we heard the same heartfelt sentiment: ‘Georgetown is a great school’. It made us so proud to continue the legacy of our amazing school today.”

It added: “A huge thank you to our parent council, some of our house captains, and everyone who contributed home baking and old photos that brought the past to life. We couldn’t have done it without you. To everyone who came along and helped make the day such a success – thank you.”

Saturday’s trip down Memory Lane was the culmination of a month of activities which have included a vibrant 1970s-themed dress-up day, where students and staff donned retro outfits and enjoyed an old-school disco. The event was filled with joy and fun as children sang and danced to timeless ‘70s classics.

The school’s parent council also boosted community spirits with two family quiz nights.
