Monrovia – In a significant move aimed at revitalizing key government ministries, President Joseph Boakai has made two pivotal appointments: Magdalene Dagoseh as the new Minister of Commerce pending confirmation and Pauline Gray-Kromah as the Interim Deputy Director for Administration at the Liberia Refugee Repatriation and Resettlement Commission (LRRRC).

They are expected to fill the vacancies left by Amin Modad and AJ Armah Karneh, who were reportedly implicated in corruption scandals that raised serious concerns about the integrity of these offices.

Madam Dagoseh steps into her role with a mandate to restore public trust in the Ministry of Commerce, an institution that has faced intense scrutiny and allegations of corruption during Modad’s tenure. Following a resignation that stemmed from a reported fallout with President Boakai related to improper financial practices, including the misuse of funds intended for medical technology to buy a luxury vehicle, the ministry is in dire need of a leader who can bring transparency and accountability.

Dagoseh is expected to implement a fresh strategy that will not only rehabilitate the ministry’s reputation but also focus on advancing Liberia’s economic interests. Her efforts are aimed at fostering trade opportunities and establishing a stable and competitive market environment, ultimately promoting business development and attracting investments that align with the government’s broader ARREST agenda.

In a similar vein, Pauline Gray-Kromah’s role as Interim Deputy Director for Administration at the LRRRC is crucial, particularly in the wake of alleged corrupt activities that have shaken the institution. The suspension of several high-ranking officials, including the Executive Director Patrick Worzie, Deputy Executive Director for Operations Richard Hoff, and Deputy Director for Administration AJ Armah Karneh, underscores the challenges facing the organization.

Gray-Kromah is expected to oversee administrative functions and implement efficient operational protocols to restore order and instill confidence among stakeholders relying on the LRRRC for refugee support and resettlement services.

Additionally, President Boakai has made further appointments to strengthen the Ministry of National Defense and the National Bureau of Veterans Affairs (NBVA). Mr. Merlin Daniel Dennis has been appointed as the Assistant Minister for Administration, a role that will be critical in ensuring the effective management of the ministry.
Alongside him, Maj. Gen. Daniel Dee Ziankahn, Jr. (Rtd.), Colonel Isaac S. Quawah (Rtd.), Lieutenant Colonel Patrick K. Topor (Rtd.), and Cllr. Korvah B. Jallah have been appointed to the Board of the National Bureau of Veterans Affairs.

The NBVA is tasked with advocating for the welfare of Liberia’s veterans, particularly those who served in the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL). By appointing reputable military retirees to the board, the Boakai-Koung administration is demonstrating its commitment to enhancing services for veterans, thereby ensuring that the rights and needs of those who have served the nation are adequately addressed.
