Saturday marks the end of the Slackwater Brewing taproom on Martin Street in the heart of downtown Penticton.

After five years of operating, the pub announced its closure at the start of October.

The brewery first opened in June 2019, as a "family and friend" ran business, brought about by Penticton resident Kelsey (Guerard) Peyton, and her husband Liam.

The brewpub-style brewery, grew from brewing to serve on-site customers, to expanding sales into four provinces.

In the social media post, Slackwater said they made the "difficult decision to permanently close" the taproom due to the "financial and operational challenges" they have faced in recent years.

Looking back on its years in business, Slackwater shared some favoutire memories on social media.

"We brewed over 1100 (just shy of 1200!) batches of beer in this building in five and a bit years. We've been lucky enough to have worked with some fantastic, talented, creative brewers, cellarhands and packaging masters, for which we are forever grateful," they said.

Slackwater will be open late Saturday night, hosting their taproom closing party.

"After over 2,000 days of parties, community fundraisers, weekly trivia, concerts, weddings, stand-up comedy, bingo, amazing staff, customers and memories, we've decided to go out with a bang."

Joe Veltri will be playing the Slackwater stage from 8 p.m.

The brewery will be serving up $6 beers until the end, and will be keeping the kitchen serving up snakcs until they're out of food.

"We look forward to slackin' off together, one last time."

Slackwater will not be ceasing brewing operations, and will just be produced at another address, with more details coming soon.
