Voters in the Kootenay Central (formerly Nelson-Creston) riding will hear provincial candidates’ speak on the key issues affecting the region at a public forum in Nelson on Thursday, Oct. 3.

All the candidates — incumbent Brittny Anderson of the B.C. NDP, Nicole Charlwood of the B.C. Green Party, Independent candidate Corinne Mori and Creston’s Kelly Vandenberghe of B.C. Conservative Party, who recently announced his candidacy — have been invited.

The public forum will start at 7 p.m. at the Nelson United Church (602 Silica Street).

Some of the issues to be discussed include: climate; forests and fires; and the environment.

Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. to allow people time to write down questions for the candidates.

The B.C. election is set for Saturday, Oct. 19. Advance voting is scheduled for Oct. 10-13, and Oct. 15-16.

The last day to request a vote-by-mail package, online or by phone, is Oct. 13.

Sponsors of the forum include the West Kootenay Climate Hub, Doctors and Nurses for Planetary Health – Kootenay-Boundary, Nelson West Kootenay Chapter of the Council of Canadians, Nelson United Church and Kootenay Lake Seniors for Climate.
