Court documents are shedding some new light on criminal charges laid Friday against a Kamloops Mountie, but details are few about what the officer is alleged to have done.

RCMP Const. Adrian Kenneth Griffith, 45, is facing charges of mischief under $5,000 and uttering threats in connection with an alleged on-duty incident in Kamloops on March 20.

He is on desk duties pending the outcome of the court process and an ongoing RCMP code of conduct investigation.

According to court documents, Griffith is not alleged to have conveyed the threat directly to the complainant, a 46-year-old Kamloops man, but to another police officer. The charging document alleges Griffith threatened to cause death or bodily harm to the complainant, but the words were uttered to RCMP Const. Christopher O’Brien.

The same complainant, who Castanet is not identifying, is named on both counts.

No other details of the allegations against Griffith have been made public.

An RCMP spokesperson told Castanet the Mountie is the subject of an ongoing RCMP code of conduct probe.

“Const. Griffith is on administrative duties and his duty status is subject to continuous review and assessment,” said Dawn Roberts, director of communication for the B.C. RCMP.

Griffith is scheduled to make his first appearance in Kamloops provincial court on Nov. 21.
