Community members will have several more weeks to ask questions about the Kamloops-Thompson school district's plan to sell off several properties.

The proposed plots of land to be liquidated include the former site of the Little Fort elementary school, a 1.8 acre parcel in Brocklehurst, and a 1.29 acre parcel adjacent to Sa-Hali Secondary school with no road access.

On Monday, the SD73 board of education unanimously approved an extension of its consultation plan until Nov. 12.

SD73 will be re-releasing a survey originally opened from Sept. 30 to Oct. 11 in order to receive more comments from the community.

A webinar will also be hosted over Zoom with SD73 director of facilities Art McDonald from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday.

“We will re release the survey as well as offer this consultation to ensure that everybody's had an opportunity to ask and have their questions answered,” said SD73 superintendent Rhonda Nixon during Monday’s board meeting.

Final consultation results will be shared with the board on Nov. 18 and the land disposal request will be sent to the Ministry of Education and Child Care the following day.

The last time SD73 sold a piece of property was in 2020 when the former Oak Hills primary school, closed in 2006, was sold to the Conseil scolaire francophone de la Columbie-Britanique.

Once community consultation has wrapped up, it could take up to 90 days for the board to receive approval from the Ministry of Education and Child Care to sell the properties.

Afterward, purchase and sales agreements will be brought to the board of approval.
