Charged in vandalism spree

Police say a man has been charged in relation in relation to a series of spray-painting incidents in Castlegar.

RCMP announced Kyle Hahn, 39, of Rossland was charged with mischief on Oct. 15.

In a news release, Castlegar RCMP said during the past three months numerous reports have been received where damages were caused to property by spray painting — one incident, after a large vehicle was spray painted, repair for damages were estimated at $80,000.

The investigation determined similarities among many of these incidents and in interviewing witnesses and reviewing security footage, a suspect and an associated vehicle were identified.

An arrest was made on Sept. 2 in the 1700 block of Columbia Avenue in Castlegar.

"The male was taken into police custody and during the search subsequent to the male’s arrest, police located items to further their investigation," said police in a release.

Hahn was scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 16 but did not appear and a warrant was issued for his arrest, according to online court records.
