Salmon Arm police say they found a prohibited driver behind the wheel of an uninsured vehicle while investigating a tip about a suspected drunk driver.

On Sept. 3, at about 8 p.m., a man reported a suspected intoxicated driver in a burgundy van on 16 Avenue NE.

“Police attended the area and located the van, which immediately turned into a driveway upon seeing the police vehicle,” said Const. Andrew Hodges of the Salmon Arm RCMP.

“The officer approached the vehicle and observed the driver attempting to move to the passenger seat.”

Police said the driver was well known to be prohibited from driving, and the van was uninsured.

A breath demand was conducted, but the device did not detect any alcohol in the breath sample.

The man was served a $598 ticket for driving an uninsured vehicle and a future court date to speak to the charge of driving while prohibited.

The vehicle was impounded by police.
