A Kamloops man will undergo a psychological assessment while behind bars after pleading guilty on Thursday to charges stemming from a campaign of stalking and harassment against his ex that lasted for more than a year.

Michael Macdonald, 47, pleaded guilty in Kamloops provincial court to charges of criminal harassment and mischief, as well as three counts of failure to comply with an undertaking.

The offences began in April of 2023 and continued until July. The victim is his ex-wife.

During a bail hearing last month, court heard Macdonald shot out his ex’s window with a BB gun and threatened to kill her. He has also sent her repeated text messages on numerous occasions, and he was accused of tracking her and keeping notes about her movements in a written journal.

Macdonald has no previous criminal record. During September’s bail hearing, a prosecutor said the Crown will likely seek a sentence longer than two years.

Following his guilty pleas on Thursday, Kamloops Provincial Court Judge Michelle Stanford ordered Macdonald undergo a pre-sentence report with a psychological component.

Lawyers will return to court on Jan. 6 to set a date for his sentencing.

Macdonald remains in custody.
