Plymouth court list: New cases as man left with £500 headache
by Carl Eve · PlymouthLiveDriving offences of one sort or another once again make up the bulk of the magistrates' time and effort with numerous motorists risking their licence by imbibing, smoking or snorting before getting behind the wheel of their car.
Most have automatically lost their driving licence for several months or longer, as well as be hit with fines and court costs, as well as the embarrassment and indignity of appearing in the court list here.
It may also be a talking point that convicted criminals who have breached court orders to attend meetings with the aim of rehabilitating them without sending them to prison are handed fines of £80 or usually less, whereas the man who dropped a cigarette butt was left more than £500 out of pocket.
