Stonehouse graffiti vandal ordered to pay out £2,800 to victims
by Shannon Brown · PlymouthLiveA young man who vandalised property in Stonehouse with graffiti has been ordered to pay £2,800 in compensation to the victims. Cameron Crean, aged 20 and of Boscastle Gardens, Plymouth, was charged on Thursday, October 17, with three counts of criminal damage after neighbourhood police officers launched an investigation into a series of graffiti in the area.
Crean was sentenced on 17 October 2024 at Plymouth Magistrates' Court. He pleaded guilty at court to three counts of criminal damage to property (which occurred in July 2024). The exact total of compensation was £2,793.
Officers heard concerns from the local community and from business owners affected by the vandalism. Police Sergeant Clare Moore, who heads up the neighbourhood support team said: "We knew how much of a negative impact the graffiti was having on the environment and people in the local neighbourhood.
“When speaking to the community during our house-to-house visits, it was made clear to us that if our officers hadn’t visited homes and businesses, people wouldn’t have reported information about the graffiti to us for a number of reasons. So being visible really helped us to build the public’s trust and confidence in the police.
"This positive result wouldn’t have happened if it wasn’t for the help from our local community. I hope this demonstrates that we are committed to listening to our communities and acting on the information we are given to pursue people causing harm in our city.”
The graffiti vandal has been ordered to pay compensation totalling £2,793 to the victims involved.
