Assembly pays tributes to Vruksha Maathe Tulasi Gowda

The Legislative Assembly paid rich tributes to Environmantalist Tulasi Gowda who passed away on Monday (December 16, 2024) .

Moving an obituary motion in this regard, Speaker U.T. Khader hailed her contributions to the society. Better known as vruksha maathe, Gowda worked for over 65 years, helping the conservation of forests, he said.

The 81-year-old Gowda who hailed from a tribal family, lost her husband at a very young age, and treated trees as her children, nurtured them with affection. Law Minister H.K. Patil said she was able to identify nearly 300 species of trees and focused completely and selflessly on environment conservation, even though she hailed from a very poor family. She planted lakhs of saplings, he pointed out.

Leader of the Opposition R. Ashok recalled how she had blessed Prime Minister Narendra Modi while receiving the Padma Shree award.
