Govt. slammed for reducing grants to backward class corporations

Members of BJP SC/ST and OBC Morcha staged a demonstration in the city on Friday condemning the reduction and delay in the release of grants to various boards and corporations meant for the welfare of the backward classes.

The BJP said Congress has come to power because of the support of the Dalits, OBCs, and other vulnerable sections of society. However, the government under Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has betrayed the communities and reduced the grant to various boards and corporations constituted to take up welfare measures for the backward classes.

Chief Minister uses OBCs as vote banks and so far has not floated a special programme exclusively for them, according to the BJP. ‘’Let alone conceiving new projects, funds to existing corporations of the backward classes have declined,” said the BJP leaders.

BJP State OBC Morcha leader Raghu said even distribution of loans to the beneficiaries has reduced. The Savitha Samaj Development Corporation meant for the upliftment of the members of the Savitha Samaj - one of the backward groups - has received only ₹2 crore, alleged Mr. Raghu.

When Basavaraj Bommai was the Chief Minister, he had released ₹550 crores for various boards and corporations, but under Siddaramaiah the amount declined to ₹170 crore, according to BJP.

Mr. Siddaramaiah has used the backward class groups coming under AHINDA for his political growth but has failed to uphold their interest, alleged the BJP and staged a demonstration holding placards.
