Kadapa police arrested Kadapa Member of Parliament Y.S. Avinash Reddy amid tension in Vemula mandal of his Pulivendula constituency on Friday (December 13).

The arrest happened during the elections held to the local water societies, even as TDP and YSRCP cadres clashed. Mr. Reddy accused the ruling dispensation of triggering trouble by resorting to undemocratic means to win the elections and requested the District Collector to ensure peaceful conduct of the elections.

As the cadres of the two parties gathered at the Vemula Tahsildar office, the MP arrived at the scene to express solidarity with the YSRCP activists who had allegedly been denied the mandatory No Dues certificate to contest the elections.

As the MP’s arrival made the cadres on both sides turn impatient, the police immediately arrested Mr. Reddy to defuse the situation. He was taken away amid slogan shouting by the party cadres.
