Realtor arrested for faking as Lokayukta to get property registration work
by The Hindu Bureau · The HinduThe Anekal police have arrested a 45-year-old realtor who posing as a relative of the Upa Lokayukta threatened the deputy Tahsildar to get property registration work.
Based on the complaint by the deputy registrar, Lokayukta, the Anekal police tracked down the accused and arrested Anand Kumar, charging him under assault or use criminal force to deter public servants to discharge their duties, impersonation and cheating for further investigation.
The accused on December 10, called Kariya Naik, deputy Tahsildar and introduced himself as the relative of Upa Lokayukta and also employee of Lokayukta office. He gave instructions to Naik to register one acre of property belonging to one Babu in the name of another person.
He also gave Deputy Tahsildar instructions and details of the property to do the work on priority basis. The accused even made his associates to call Naik from different numbers posing as IGP and SP of Lokayukta to pressurise him to get the work done.
Suspecting something fishy, Mr. Naik approached Lokayukta for clarification and found that there is no one in the name of Anand Kumar working there nor any instructions given to him.
Taking strong objection, the deputy registrar inquiries conducted a probe before filing a complaint with the Anekal police.
The police are now further investigating to ascertain his criminal background.
