Man killed in road accident in Kochi

A 76-year-old man was killed after an SUV reportedly rammed his van near the Ernakulam Law College on Friday (December 13) around 7 a.m.

The deceased was identified as Johny Lopez of Karshaka Road in the city. The SUV, allegedly speeding, was headed in the South-North direction along Avenue Road, while the van was coming from the opposite direction.

The SUV reportedly got into the opposite track and rammed the van. Lopez was engaged in conveyance of students and was on his way to pick up children.

The Central police registered a case against the SUV driver under Sections 281 and 106 (1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for rash and negligent driving and causing death by negligence.
