A court in Guntur has dismissed ANU student Rishiteswari’s suicide case on Friday, stating that the prosecution has failed to prove the guilt of the accused.

A Bachelor of Architecture (B. Arch) student of Acharya Nagarjuna University (ANU), Guntur, and a native of Warangal district in Telangana, M. Rishiteswari (18) committed suicide in the university hostel room on July 14, 2015, alleging ragging. In a suicide note left behind, the victim alleged that a few seniors misbehaved with her in the fresher party.

The Guntur police registered a case under Section 306 IPC (Abetment of Suicide) and Section 4 of Prohibition of Ragging Act, 2011. They arrested a few senior students in the case. After nine years, the court dismissed the case on Friday.

“The court dismissed the case citing lack of evidence. We produced the suicide note and Rishiteswari’s diary to the court,” victim’s mother M. Durga Bai told the media at the court.

“The court’s judgment has disappointed us. Injustice is done to us. We will go for an appeal on the judgment,” said Rishiteswari’s father M. Murali Krishna.
