The Annapoorneshwari Nagar police have arrested a 38-year-old man, a habitual offender who was involved in as many as 11 housebreaking cases in the city.

The accused was identified as Irfan Islamuddin from Umri in Uttar Pradesh.

City police commissioner B. Dayananda said, “The accused is a habitual offender. Over 65 criminal cases, including the Arms Act, were registered against him. He was involved in contract killings as well.”

The police investigated a housebreaking case in August 2023 and identified the accused using fingerprint samples lifted from the crime scene. The search led them to Moradabad District Prison where the accused was serving a sentence in another case.

The police brought Imran under a body warrant and launched a detailed inquiry. Following this, the accused confessed to the 11 housebreaking crimes he committed in the city. They recovered 1.7 kg of gold valuables, which he had pawned in Mumbai and Uttar Pradesh. The stolen valuables were valued at around ₹1.3 crore.

A probe revealed that the UP police had arrested him but he got out on bail citing medical reasons. He then came to Bengaluru city, committed burglaries, and fled with the valuables.

Following the investigation, Imran Islamuddin was handed over to the UP police. The City police commissioner announced a cash reward for the team for a successful investigation of the case.
