Kannur ITI clash: KSU activists booked under non-bailable sections after protest march

by The Hindu Bureau · The HinduThe police have registered cases against 14 Kerala Students Union (KSU) activists and around 100 others, who can be identified, under non-bailable sections following their protest march to the District Police Chief’s office on Monday (December 16, 2024).
The protest was organised against the authorities’ alleged failure to arrest an SFI activist and the police action on injured KSU members after violence broke out between student union members at Thottada ITI in Kannur.
Based on a complaint filed by Town Sub-Inspector P.P. Shameel, the cases were registered under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including 189(2), 191(2), 191(3), 285, 132, 121(1), 190, and 117(e). Additionally, cases were filed under Section 112(e) of the Kerala Police Act (KP Act) and Sections 4 and 2 of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act.
The KSU leaders and activists named in the case include KSU State vice president Muhammed Shammas, district presidents M.C. Athul, V.T. Suraj, and Anshith V.K., State general secretaries Farhan Munderi, Arjun Katayat, Asif Muhammed, Adarsh Mangattidam, Akash Bhaskar, Harikrishnan Palatt, and Arjun Chalad.
