Crime Branch to probe charges against Saji Cherian

by · The Hindu

The Kerala Police have issued proceedings for a Crime Branch inquiry into the accusations that Fisheries Minister Saji Cherian had allegedly disparaged the Constitution at a public speech at Mallappally in Pathanamthitta in 2022.

The order is in deference to a High Court directive last week demanding a Crime Branch inquiry into the controversy. The High Court also threw out a police report exonerating Mr. Cherian of any wrongdoing in the case last week. It ruled out a public interest litigant’s demand for a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation and recommended a reinvestigation by the Crime Branch instead.
