Samiti appeals to DC to hold public meeting to address issues of national highways in DK

The Toll Gate Virodhi Horata Samiti has appealed to Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner M.P. Mullai Muhilan to hold, at the earliest, a public meeting to address public concerns on issues pertaining to five national highways that pass through Dakshina Kannada.

In a statement, Samiti Convenor Muneer Katipalla said that despite the rainy season ending, no action has been taken so far to fill potholes on several crucial stretches of national highways in the district. Temporary service roads, which are laid at places where highway widening works are on, are yet to be asphalted.

The underpass work at Nantoor junction in Mangaluru has come to a halt. The construction of the new bridge at Kuloor in Mangaluru started four years ago has come to a halt. There are serious concerns over the work of widening Punjalkatte and Charmadi stretch of the national highway. Officials are not addressing people’s issues while widening the national highway stretch between B.C. Road and Adda Hole. While NH widening work was done in a systematic way between Talapady and Kasaragod in Kerala, people in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi are aghast over the poor implementation of highway works in two districts.

There will be serious logistical problems in case of failure in completing the works related to the new bridge at Kuloor, underpass at Nantoor, flyover at Kalladka and highway widening works in Belthangady and Ujire before the commencement of next monsoon.

Just like how Udupi Deputy Commissioner K. Vidyakumari held a public consultative meeting recently, Mr. Muhilan too should hold a meeting at the earliest, Mr. Katipalla stated.
