Bank and two schools gets hoax bomb threat emails
by The Hindu Bureau · The HinduHoax bomb threat emails continue to bother the city police as two schools and a private bank in the central business district received threat mails on Tuesday and Wednesday, after checks they were declared to be hoax .
The HSBC Bank branch near Trinity Circle was among several of its branches that received an email warning of explosives on its premises. The jurisdictional Halasuru police station was immediately alerted.
Bomb squads, BDDS along with local police rushed to the bank and evacuated the staff and customers before conducting a thorough search. After two hours of operation, it was declared as hoax. “Going by the content of the email, we knew it was hoax but followed SOP to check,” a police officer, said .
Similar threat mails were sent to Bishop Cotton Boys’ School and Bishop Cotton Girls’ School on Residency Road and St. Mark’s Road warning of explosives being planted. The police found the same ID used to sent hoax emails .
After checking the school premises, the jurisdictional Cubbon Park police declared the emails a hoax. Two separate cases were registered on Tuesday, officials said.
