Residential properties demolished in Ameenpur amid tight police security

According to the police, about 28 houses, all reportedly constructed illegally on government land, are being demolished; revenue and municipal departments are carrying out the demolitions in Patelguda and Krishnareddypet of Ameenpur, amid tight police security

About a hundred police officials from the Sangareddy police were deployed on the ground as Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) took up demolition drive of residential properties in Ameenpur of Sangareddy district on Sunday.

According to the police, about 28 houses, all reportedly constructed illegally on government land, are being demolished.

Teams from revenue and municipal departments are carrying out the demolitions in Patelguda and Kistareddypet of Ameenpur, amid tight police security.

“The demolition drive started around 7 a.m. in the morning and is expected to continue till evening. About 100 staffers from the Sangareddy police have been deployed for bandobust. Some citizens expressed their angst however, no major instance of violence has been reported,”said Ameenpur Inspector Nagaraj.

Statement from HYDRAA

In an official statement on the demolition drive carried out by HYDRAA, Commissioner AV Ranganath said that it targeted two places.

“Sheds constructed for commercial operations within the Full Tank Level (FTL) and buffer zone of Kukatpally Lake/Nalla Cheruvu have been identified. Specifically, some individuals have built large sheds along the boundary of Kukatpally Lake for extensive commercial activities, such as catering businesses, which include substantial kitchens for cooking orders. Workers associated with these activities reside on the premises, and while those structures have been removed, HYDRAA will not target buildings occupied for residential purposes,” said the statement. 

He further added that the structures constructed by the builder for the purpose of commercial operations duly encroaching the government land situated at Kistareddypet and Patelguda of Ameenpur mandal. “This initiative aims to restore and protect the integrity of these crucial water bodies and government lands,” said the Commissioner. 

As per the statement, in Kukatpally Lake/Nalla Cheruvu, 16 commercial sheds and compound walls were removed, reclaiming four acres of land. In Kistareddypet, three Reinforced Cement Concrete(RCC) structures were demolished, freeing up one acre. Additionally, 25 RCC structures were torn down in Patelguda, resulting in the reclamation of three acres. Through these efforts, HYDRAA has reclaimed a total of approximately 8 acres of valuable government land.

The demolition drive was carried out with the participation of officials from the Revenue Department, Irrigation Department, and Town Planning Department, alongside the HYDRAA team.
