Himachal CM accuses BJP of misinformation on state’s finances

Himachal Pradesh CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu criticizes BJP for economic mismanagement, promises to fulfill election guarantees on Dec 11

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Tuesday hit out at the Bharatiya Janata Party, accusing the previous BJP regime of leaving the state in ruins and spreading misinformation about the current economic condition of the state.

He was addressing a public gathering at Bakhli in the Siraj Assembly constituency of Mandi district, where he announced that the Congress government would fulfill seven of its key election guarantees on December 11, when the government completes two years.

Staffing ‘scams’

“The Congress dissolved the Subordinate Services Selection Commission in Hamirpur after allegations of corruption and paper leaks. The former BJP government had swept the issue under the carpet. The previous BJP government also opened about 900 institutions at the end of its tenure only with an eye on the polls. All these institutions and offices were opened without budgetary provisions. Such actions are a betrayal. We will open new institutions only after ensuring proper staffing,” he said.

“The state was reeling under a heavy debt burden owing to mismanagement by the previous BJP government. The BJP left the treasury in dire straits, and no money was left to run the government for even a month. We have introduced significant policy changes over the past two years to benefit common people. Restoration of the old pension scheme for 1.36 lakh government employees, release of an 11% dearness allowance for employees and pensioners, and an increase in police diet allowances to ₹1,000. These measures reflect the state’s improving financial health,” he said.

The Chief Minister criticised the BJP for resorting to trivial politics before the elections on issues like “toilet tax and samosas.”
