Tamil Nadu rains: Holiday declared for Chennai schools, several other districts
Schools alone will be shut due to heavy rain warning in Chennai, district collector has announced
by The Hindu Bureau · The HinduHoliday has been declared for schools alone on Thursday (December 12, 2024) in several districts in Tamil Nadu, including Chennai, in view of heavy rains. Some of the districts where schools will be shut are Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram and Chengalpattu districts.

Tirunelveli Collector K.P. Karthikeyan has announced holiday for classes I to V in the district due to the forecast of heavy rain.
Schools alone will be shut due to heavy rain warning in Chennai, district collector has announced.
Ramanathapuram district collector Simranjeet Singh Kahlon has also announced holiday for schools. Holiday has also been declared for schools only in Salem, Mayiladuthurai, Thanjavur, Pudukottai and Ariyalur districts.
In Tiruvannamalai, both schools and colleges will be shut on Thursday. Schools alone will also remain shut in Karur, Vellore, Ranipet, Tiruvannamalai, Tirupatur districts today. Thiruvalluvar University in Vellore has postponed monthly examinations for November and December due to rain.
Thoothukudi Collector K. Elambahavath has also declared holiday for schools in the district due to rainfall.
Some places that received heavy rainfall till 5.30 a.m. on Thursday: Karaikal 8 cm; Adiramapattinam (Thanjavur district), Vriddhachalam (Cuddalore district) 7 cm each; Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Cuddalore and Poonamallee and Red Hills (Chennai) 6 cm each; Nungambakkam(Chennai) 5 cm.
