Both the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) factions should come together, NCP(SP) MLA Rohit Pawar’s mother and Sharad Pawar’s daughter-in-law Sunanda Pawar said on Friday (December 13, 2024).

“I feel Ajit Pawar and Sharad Pawar should come together as it will strengthen the party. The party will strengthen when its roots are strong, otherwise, it will weaken its power,” Sunanda Pawar said while speaking to media in Pune. Ms. Pawar is Sharad Pawar’s elder brother Dinkarrao Pawar’s daughter-in-law.

NCP spokesperson Amol Mitkari has welcomed Ms. Pawar’s statement.

Ms. Pawar also vouched for giving the party’s responsibility to the next generation. “Not only Rohit Pawar but all the young MLAs, who have a vision, should be given the responsibility so that the party can grow again,” she said.

Calling NCP(SP) chief Sharad Pawar and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar’s meeting entirely familial, she dismissed the political angle to their meeting. “We all meet Sharad Pawar as a family on his birthday,” she said.

NCP chief Ajit Pawar’s meeting with his uncle Sharad Pawar on his 85th birthday flared the speculation of two parties coming together after incumbent Baramati MLA Ajit separated from the main NCP to form an alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2023. However, NCP(SP) leaders dismissed speculation of a reunion.

Ankush Kakade pointed out that the media has set the narrative of NCP and NCP(SP) coming together, but, what happens in future, who knows. “Leaders and workers wish to come together and work, however, Sharad Pawar will take the final call.”

Meanwhile, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut has accused Ajit Pawar of poaching NCP(SP) MPs. He claimed, “BJP has asked Ajit Pawar to bring in five to six MPs from the NCP(SP) to receive Ministerial berths for his leaders in the Centre.” Mr. Raut’s comments came after BJP spokesperson Pravin Darekar made a statement claiming NCP(SP) MPs were in touch with the BJP.
