Two men from Andhra get life imprisonment for murder of watchman in Chennai
by The Hindu Bureau · The HinduA Sessions Court in Chennai has convicted and sentenced two men from Andhra Pradesh to life imprisonment for the murder of a watchman in ICF in 2016.
The victim was identified as Veeraiah, 42, a native of Chinnakottai, Nagaipattinam district who was working as a watchman at an ICF godown on Constable Road, Perambur.
According to the prosecution, on June 6, 2016 while he was on night duty in the godown, two persons Ramesh and Suman, who were dwelling on the platform, invited him for drinks. As he refused to go with them, a quarrel erupted between them and a scuffle also ensued as the duo abused him. The duo hit him on head with iron pipes lying on the roadside and fled the scene. Two days later, the critically injured Veeraiah succumbed to injuries at a Government Hospital.
Subsequently, ICF Police registered a case and arrested the duo N. Ramesh, 36 and Suman, 24 in June 2016 on charges of murder. The trial in the case was conducted before the 20th Sessions Court in Allikulam Campus. At the conclusion of the trial, the Sessions judge held them guilty for murder as the prosecution proved charges against them. They were sentenced to life-imprisonment besides imposing a fine of ₹6,000.
