Woman conservancy worker claims she has not been paid for six months
by The Hindu Bureau · The HinduA woman cleanliness worker, P. Subbulakshmi, has complained that she has not received her salary for the last six months.
The woman from Tirukurippu Thondar Street in Vannarpettai gave a petition to Tirunelveli Mayor G. Ramakrishnan during the weekly grievances redressal meeting.
She said that she has been involved in cleaning activity in Corporation Old Primary School, Salai Street, Vannarpettai since June 2024. However, she had not been paid her salary till date, she complained and sought the Mayor’s intervention in disbursal of her salary.
Another woman, A. Ramalakshmi of Town, complained that some strangers had encroached upon the Karuvelan Gundu Street in front of her house and erected a cattle shed.
The shed has obstructed the pathway for her house.
When she asked them to remove it, the strangers had threatened the widow with dire consequences.
Stating that the cattle shed has been put up without any permission from the Corporation, the woman sought action to remove it.
Residents of Ward 14 in Thachanallur zone complained that the documents mentioned their residential area as Nambirajapuram, while the Corporation tax receipts mentioned it as Nambiyan Pacheri.
Though the Assistant Commissioner in 2003 had replied to a petition claiming that the urban local body had changed the name to Nambirajanpuram in the Corporation receipts, even now the receipts carried the name Nambiyan Pacheri.
This was creating confusion for the residents.
Residents of Motilal Street in Junction complained that the one of the residents in their street had obstructed the drainage by constructing steps to his house. This had led to stagnation of sewage posing health hazard.
