Pointing out emerging problems related to financial fraud and cyber crime, Kerala High Court judge Justice Murali Krishna on Saturday asked young advocates to be innovative and empathetic to address new age problems.

Speaking at the founders’ day celebrations of SDM Law College, Mangaluru, being held as apart of its golden jubilee celebrations, Justice Krishna, an alumni of the college, said during the students’ visit to houses as part of community engagement exercise during his graduation days 20 years ago, the issues that concerned people then included improper water supply, bad roads and problems related to ration cards.

“But now the situation has changed. Now problems are related to financial frauds and cyber crimes. Advocates need to be innovative and empathetic to address these new age problems. I have confidence in law institutes’ ability to prepare emerging advocates for tackling these new problems,” he said.

While asking advocates to have more engagements with society to be aware of ground realities, Mr. Krishna said advocates have onerous responsibility in upholding people’s faith in judiciary.

Former Advocate-General of Karnataka Uday Holla expressed concern over eroding moral values and asked young advocates not to adopt corrupt practices. Emphasising that the profession of law was to succour weak and empowering weakest among weaker sections of the society, senior advocate Mr. Holla asked emerging advocates to make use of the opportunity to wipe out tears of people.

Pattadhikari of Shrikshetra Dharmastala and Rajya Sabha Member, D. Veerendra Heggade said dynamic solution is needed to address modern day problems. Laws should be framed in a way that helps provide social justice.   The Dharmastala Kshetra has a long history of dispensing justice to people, he said.
