Coimbatore police seize 500 kg of banned tobacco products

The Coimbatore District (Rural) Police on Thursday seized 500 kg of banned tobacco products from two places near Sulur.

According to police, a 55-year-old woman from Bharathipuram at Sulur owns four houses at Indira Nagar, near Kadampadi. The woman came to know that two persons, who were living in one of the houses for rent, stocked suspected contraband materials in gunny bags.

After being alerted by the woman, the Sulur police rushed to the house and seized 380 kg of banned tobacco products, including 92.65 kg of Cool Lip, a product against which the police have intensified drives. Before the police arrived, the two residents escaped with some of the contraband substances.

Later, the police seized 120 kg of prohibited tobacco products from a place at Kannampalayam, near Sulur, and arrested the two men, namely Kalidas, 25, and Nitheesh, 23, natives of Pudukottai.
