The Udupi Jilla Malekudiya Sangha on Friday urged the government to release a special grant of ₹100 crore for the integrated development of Malekudiya tribal people living on the foothills of the Western Ghats.

Addressing presspersons in Udupi, Sridhara Gowda Idu, president of Karnataka Malekudiya Sangha, said the government should reserve 400 acres to accommodate landless Malekudiya people.

He said the government should create infrastructure facilities in areas where Malekudiya tribal people live on the fringes of forests. The recommendations of Kasturirangan Committee Report should not be implemented, he said.
