Minister for Revenue Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy has announced that the government has decided to rectify the lapses in the reorganisation of the districts by the previous Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government as it is resulting in severe inconvenience to the administration.

The Minister refuted the charge that the Congress government was contemplating to take up reorganisation of the districts afresh. “There will be no change in the 33 districts, 76 revenue divisions and 661 mandals. “Don’t trust the propaganda unleashed by vested interests,” he said replying to a query during the Question Hour in the Legislative Assembly on Tuesday (Decemberr 17).

Several members cutting across party lines expressed concern over the district reorganisation and wanted the government to consider creation of new revenue divisions for administrative convenience.

Responding to the requests, Mr. Srinivas Reddy said the gGovernment had proposed to create 11 new revenue divisions of which preliminary notification was issued in respect of four. Proposals for new revenue divisions were asked from the collectors of six districts while one proposal that was already received was under examination.

The previous BRS government took up reorganisation of districts without conducting feasibility study as a result of which mandals and revenue divisions had become scattered. Yellandu revenue division for instance was spread over four constituencies while several other divisions were spread over more than one constituency.

The reorganisation exercise of the previous regime ensured that MLAs in some constituencies could not approach the officials concerned for taking up development works. The BRS regime, he said, created two new revenue divisions and 31 mandals two years ago without allotting offices and staff for them.

The government had therefore decided to hold discussions with the MLAs facing problems on account of the district reorganisation so that feasibility reports could be obtained from the respective areas. “The issues will be discussed in the State Cabinet and a positive decision will be taken,” he said.
