Three persons electrocuted in Vellore, Ambur towns

Three persons were electrocuted in Vellore and Ambur towns on Thursday.

The police said in the first incident, M. Muthukumar, 45, pump operator, Veppanguppam panchayat in Vellore, along with R. Ashok Kumar, 55, resident; was installing a solar-powered streetlamp pole in the village. The duo were carrying the pole when it accidently touched a live overhead electric wire. They were electrocuted. Based on alert, the Veppanguppam police recovered the bodies and sent them to Government Medical College Hospital in Vellore. A case was registered.

In the second incident, a 32-year-old mason was electrocuted when he switched on a motor pump set at the construction site on School Street in Ambur town. The deceased was identified as M. Saravanan, a resident of Vaniyambadi. Initial inquiry revealed that Saravanan had gone to the construction site early to ready the construction materials. As part of it, he switched on the motor pumpset to fill water in the empty barrels when he was electrocuted.

The Ambur Town police inspected the spot and sent the body to Government Taluk Hospital in Ambur. A case was registered. A probe is underway.
