Seer criticises lathi-charge on Panchamasali agitators

by · The Hindu

The recent police lathi-charge on the Panchamasali community members during their protest seeking reservation under 2A, has drawn flak from Chidananda Swami of Hosamutt.

Speaking to presspersons here on Sunday, the seer said the police action was condemnable. The State government should have invited Kudalasangama Mutt seer Basava Jayamruthyunjaya Swami for talks on the issue but instead the community members were baton-charged, he said.

Expressing his support to the agitation of the Panchamasali community on its demand, the seer accused Chief Minister Siddaramaiah of forcing Jayamruthyunjaya Swami to resort to protest. Taking the seer into custody amounted to insulting the Panchamasali community, he said.

Responding to the counter-agitation by the backward classes opposing the demand of the Panchamasali community, the seer said it had to be resolved through talks and the Veerashaiva Mahasabha should intervene and offer to mediate.
