Officers told to make all arrangements for annual fair of Mailaralingeshwar temple
Yadgir Deputy Commissioner reviews preparations for the fair to be organised from January 12 to 18 next
by The Hindu Bureau · The HinduDeputy Commissioner B. Susheela has directed officers of the various departments concerned to make all necessary arrangements for the smooth conduct of the annual fair of Mailaralingeshwar temple at Mailapur village in Yadgir district.
She was chairing a review meeting in Yadgir on Tuesday. The annual fair at Mailaralingeshwar temple begins on January 12 and concludes on January 18, 2025.
“Several lakhs of devotees from different parts of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Maharashtra are expected to take part in the fair. Therefore, all necessary arrangements, including basic needs such as drinking water, mobile toilets and bathrooms for both men and women, are to be set up,” Dr. Susheela said.
“As usual, government buses will operate from various parts of the districts to the town. And, KKRTC officials should operate 100 buses this time and identify a suitable place to set up the bus stand near the temple to facilitate devotees coming from various districts. They should also create parking space for private vehicles,” she said.
The Home Department and the Fire and Emergency Services should deploy adequate staff and take initiatives to ensure security and safety of devotees. The Health Department should set up health care centres and also keep ready ambulances to attend to devotees and other visitors in case of health emergencies.
Dr. Susheela directed Revenue Department officials to take all possible steps to ensure a hassle-free path for the palanquin carrying the idol of Mailaralingeshwar from the temple to reach the lake for a holy dip and back.
They should also keep ready local swimmers with life jackets near the lake to attend to any emergency. The district administration will set up check-posts at the entry points of the temple.
Officers of the Animal Husbandry Department should take sheep and goats into their custody from devotees, as hurling live animals on the holy palanquin is banned. The department should sell sheep and goats thus seized in a public auction, the Deputy Commissioner said.
Liquor sale has been prohibited in Arakera and Ramsamudra limits.
Superintendent of Police Pruthvik Shankar, Assistant Commissioner Hampanna Sajjan and other officers were present.
