Two migrant labourers from Odisha were beaten to death in Namakkal district on Tuesday (December 17, 2024).
R. Munna (27) and S. Dhubaleshwar (26), both natives of Odisha, were working in a spinning mill at Veppadai near Pallipalayam in the district. On Tuesday morning, the duo was found dead with injuries near a Tasmac outlet at Patharai. On information, the police rushed to the spot and sent the bodies to Government Hospital for post-mortem.
A sniffer dog was brought in. The Namakkal District Superintendent of Police (SP), S. Rajesh Kannan, arrived at the spot and inquired. The Veppadai police registered a case and are on the lookout for the culprits.
Police sources said that the deceased had come to the Tasmac outlet on Monday night. Police suspect that the duo might have been beaten to death after a quarrel between other migrant workers. The police are verifying the CCTV footage in the locality.
As thousands of migrant labourers are working in various mills in the surrounding areas, it has become difficult to ascertain the motive of the murder, sources added.
