Woman held for cheating medical aspirant in T.N.
by The Hindu Bureau · The HinduThe Job Racket Wing of Avadi City Police has arrested a 48-year-old woman from Kanyakumari district, who was also a functionary of the Congress party, for allegedly cheating a woman to the tune of ₹59 lakh on the pretext of getting a medical seat for her daughter.
The accused has been identified as Anitha alias Anitha Sweetie, 48, a native of Agastheeswaram, Kanyakumari district. She was also a Siddha medical practitioner. She was arrested by the police following a complaint from Deepa, 44, of Padur.
The complainant alleged that since her daughter did not get medical admission in 2019, she approached Anitha through a family friend. Anitha said she was a functionary of the Congress party and claimed she was known to the officials of the All India Medical Council.
Anitha allegedly collected ₹59 lakh altogether from Deepa, from 2019 to 2020, promising to arrange a medical seat for the latter’s daughter. She failed to get the seat as promised and did not return the amount.
