SIM card, ganja seized from inmate in Salem Prison; video goes viral

Salem Central Prison Officials confiscated a SIM card, 20 grams of ganja and a data cable from a prison inmate on Friday, and a video of the inmate receiving the items was leaked on social media.

Lawyers are allowed to meet their clients every evening between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. at the prison. On Friday, Kacha (40), serving a seven-year sentence in a robbery case, after meeting his lawyer, moved to his cell in a manner prison officials found suspicious. Upon inspecting him, they found 20 grams of ganja, a SIM card and a data cable concealed in his underwear.

When questioned, he said he received the items from his lawyer. Prison officials lodged a complaint with the Hasthampatti police regarding the incident, and police are investigating further.

Meanwhile, a video showing the lawyer handing over something to the inmate went viral on social media.
