BJP State president K. Annamalai on Friday (November 29, 2024) alleged that the law and order situation in Tamil Nadu had become worse, and added that the hands of the police were “tied” as they were unable to take strict action against “anti-social elements, who without any fear, roam freely and commit murders.”

In a social media post, Mr. Annamalai expressed shock over the murder of three persons of a family at Semalaikavundanpalayam near Palladam in Tiruppur district. He said in a similar incident in Palladam, four persons of the same family were murdered last year.

“The first and foremost duty of the State government is to maintain law and order in the State. However, the DMK government in Tamil Nadu has failed to do so, which has put the lives of common people at risk,” he alleged. The Chief Minister, who is in charge of the police, is “not concerned” about the law and order situation in the State, he alleged.

“Instead of using the police only to arrest opposition leaders and those who criticise the government,” the DMK should let the police do their duty independently to ensure the safety of common people, he added.
