Lathi-charge on protesters: Karnataka Home Minister rules out judicial inquiry; BJP stages walkout
by The Hindu Bureau · The HinduThe issue of the lathi-charge on protesters seeking reservation for the Lingayat Panchamasali community again rocked the Upper House on Monday, with the Opposition staging a walkout upset over the Home Minister’s reply on the issue.
The issue again came up for discussion on Monday with the Opposition members seeking a reply from the ruling party on their demand for a judicial inquiry into the lathi-charge.
Replying on the issue, Home Minister G. Parameshwara categorically stated that the police had done their duty to maintain law and order, and there was no question of taking any action against them. The Home Minister clarified that there was no question of any judicial inquiry into the issue as it was unwarranted.
The Home Minister said 23 police personnel suffered injuries during the protest and 11 among the protesters suffered injuries.
The Opposition members raised slogans against the government and staged a walkout.
