Mumbai police arrest woman after threat call to PM Modi
Police said that the caller was “not in her sound mind” and that her medical tests were being conducted
by The Hindu Bureau · The Hindu“Mumbai Police Control received a call threatening to kill Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The caller informed of a plot made to kill PM Modi, and the weapon is ready for it,” Amboli police said on Thursday (November 28, 2024).
“After the threat call, the control room informed the Amboli police station, Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), and Crime Branch. Intelligence Bureau (IB) is also taking a follow-up on the case,” the police said.
According to Mumbai police, a woman made the anonymous call on Wednesday (November 27, 2024), informing them about a plan to kill Modi and switching off the phone immediately. The woman is a resident of Nalasopara in Maharashtra’s Palghar District, but the phone call was located in Andheri’s Amboli area. Amboli police station started investigating the call and traced her in Kandivali, where she switched on her phone.
The police detained a 34-year-old woman, who had no criminal background. The preliminary investigation indicates the woman made a ‘prank call’ out of frustration as she was mentally disturbed.
Police booked the accused woman under Section 353 (Public Mischief) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). “The woman was not in her sound mind and did it out of frustration towards the system. This fake threat call was an attention-seeking tactic. However, we are conducting her medical tests. After reports, we will decide on further course of action,” Sadashiv Nikam, senior inspector of the Amboli police, told The Hindu.
According to officials, the detained woman has a history of making calls to police. “Earlier, she used to call and ask for money and to pay her bills. This time she made a fake threat call, which caught attention,” said Mr. Nikam, adding this is an exploitation of machinery.
