Police constable assaults journalist at Tamil Nadu Govt. Multi Super Speciality Hospital
When the policeman skipped the queue at a counter, the journalist questioned him about it
by The Hindu Bureau · The HinduA journalist was attacked by a police constable after the former questioned the latter for skipping a queue at the Tamil Nadu Government Multi Super Speciality Hospital on Omandurar Estate on Wednesday.
A.D. Balasubramanian, who works as a news editor at the Press Trust of India, Chennai, and his son, who was unwell, visited the hospital. After consulting the doctor, Mr. Balasubramanian said that when he was waiting in queue to buy medicines, a police constable skipped the queue and went straight to the counter. When Mr. Balasubramanian asked the constable the reason he skipped the queue, the policeman claimed that he had come to the hospital with a sub-inspector. When the journalist cast doubt on the constable’s claim, the policeman attacked and abused him.
Later, when Mr. Balasubramanian tried filming the constable’s vehicle, the latter hit him with slippers. Mr. Balasubramanian lodged a complaint with the Triplicane police. Based on the complaint, the police registered a case under Sections 296(b)(Uttering Obscene words), 115(2)(Voluntarily causing hurt), and 130(Assault) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and began investigating.
