The victim, a man in his 30s, was rushed to hospital after sustaining a large laceration to his head. His injuries are not described as life-threatening, police said.

An investigation into the incident was launched, with six men, all between the ages of 18 and 35, arrested a short while later on suspicion of section 18 assault. They have since been bailed.

Detectives say they are 'following several lines of enquiry' and are now appealing to the public for information amid ongoing investigations.

Officers also want to speak to anyone who was in the area that evening, or who lives on Railway Street or the surrounding area and has CCTV, dash cam, or doorbell footage.

PC Josh Smith from GMP's Trafford District said: “We have been and are continuing to follow up on numerous lines of enquiry and we are now appealing to the public to get in touch with us, if they feel like they have any information that could be vital to our investigation.

“This was an isolated incident in the early hours of a Saturday morning on a street where numerous people would have been and may have seen the incident take place.

“We know that incidents of this nature are concerning for residents and businesses to hear about, we managed to arrest six men a few hours after the incident took place, they have since been bailed while we continue with our investigations.”
