Boy, 16, charged with attempted murder after teenager seriously injured in Gorton shooting

A 16-year-old boy has been charged with attempted murder after a teenager was seriously injured in a reported shooting in Gorton. Police were called to the firearms discharge on Hampden Crescent on the evening of October 7.

The victim, a 19-year-old, was left with life-changing injuries in the incident. Police and forensics taped off the residential street overnight amid investigations.

Greater Manchester Police said on Sunday (October 13) that a 16-year-old boy had been charged with attempted murder and possession of a bladed article.

The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is set to appear at Manchester Youth Court on Monday October 14. An 18-year-old man arrested earlier this week has been bailed pending further enquiries, police confirmed.

The charge relates to the reported firearms discharge and altercation in Gorton, at around 5.45pm last Monday. A 15-year-old and 21-year-old previously arrested in connection with the incident have since been released without charge.

Detective Chief Inspector Nicola McCulloch of Greater Manchester Police said: “Our investigation is very much ongoing and our call for witnesses and footage remains in place. We urge anyone who has not yet come forward to do so.”
