One friend wrote: "Sudeh was always a woman I saw as a role model since I met her at uni when I started my PhD back in 2010. She was kind, strong, fair and she fought for women's rights. I am so grateful for getting to know her at this world. She always offered her help to me even more recently when I asked her for help back in May. I am lost for words. A beautiful human which I will never forget."
Another posted: "She was a kind, caring and truly inspirational woman. The world is considerably worse off for no longer having her in it. RIP Sudeh."
One friend wrote: "Sudeh Sohi was such a gorgeous, beautiful soul and a wonderful friend. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She brightened every room and made a huge impact on the people around her."
Another said: "Sudeh was one of the most inspirational and wonderful women I had ever met...She was always so kind, caring and passionate and the most incredible mother."
An inquest into her death was opened and adjourned at Bradford Coroner's Court on Wednesday. Police Coroner's officer Claire Joyce told the brief hearing that Sudeh, who was employed as a research fellow, was born in Blackburn on July 30, 1979, and lived with her partner of 27 years. She died on October 24 in Todmorden, West Yorkshire.
Ms Joyce said that at around 6am on October 24, Sudeh had left home and had gone to a courtyard. Her partner had gone outside at 7am and found her hanging. Paramedics were called and she was pronounced dead. Sudeh was identified to police by Matthew Carr, her partner.
A preliminary cause of death was given at the hearing as 'effects of hanging.' The inquest was adjourned by assistant coroner Caroline Chandler for further information to be gathered. The coroner requested statements from the mental health trust, Sudeh's GP, Calderdale Recovery Steps, police, and Sudeh's family.
The inquest is expected to be heard in full in February 2025.
