BREAKING: Man charged with attempted murder after 'arson attack' on home

A man has been charged with attempted murder after a fire at a home in Salford.

The blaze ripped through the property on Montonmill Gardens at around 5.15am on Tuesday morning (October 22). A woman - aged in her 50s - was taken to hospital from the scene.

After the fire was extinguished, an investigation was launched by both Greater Manchester Police and the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service. A police spokesperson said the fire was being treated as a suspected arson attack.

Nicholas Martin, of Bosworth Street, Leicester, has now been charged with attempted murder in connection with the incident. The 62-year-old has been remanded into custody, GMP said.

He is due to appear at Manchester and Salford Magistrates' Court today (October 25). In a statement, a GMP spokesperson said: "A man has been charged following an investigation into an arson attack at a property in Montonmill Gardens, Salford, on 22 October.

"Nicholas Martin (28/08/1962), of Bosworth Street, Leicester, has been charged with attempted murder. He was remanded in custody to appear at Manchester and Salford Magistrates Court today (25 October)."
